This post completes my experience up to the current time. Over the past 32 hours I have:
- Not gotten any calls from any Verizon department (FiOS, Customer Support, Slamming team) that is going to investigate my claim of being slammed.
- Repeatedly dialed my home phone number and either gotten the “Number has been disconnected” message or a fast busy signal. I am hopeful that Vonage will rectify this soon.
- Received many emails asking “Why has your number been disconnected?”
- Bought this domain name, set up this blog and made entries documenting my experience so that others can read it and form their own opinions. I will also use it as the source document for when/if Verizon ever does investigate.
I am hoping that my phone will be back on soon. I am hoping that someone from Verizon will call and try to fix something. If someone wants to contact me about this then please send me email.
From this point forward I will blog as things happen - hopefully that will be soon.

Hi,
We were supposed to have Verizon install FIOS this morning (to enjoy with our new home theater over our holiday break). My wife had called last night to confirm the installation (they said sure, it’s all good), she planned her day around it, but they never showed up. When she called to see what was going on, she was told that there was no scheduled order for today, and that the person she’d confirmed with was actually a “3rd party vendor” (even though they’d identified themselves to her as a Verizon rep!!). She was on hold for 20 minutes this morning before they offered to call her back (within 15 minutes). 30 minutes later, she ended up calling them back. I realized that there’s no way anyone’s coming out today, and I’m not having her waste any more time on their nonsense. I’d rather upgrade our Crapcast to HD and leave it at that.
I googled “FIOS sucks” in my frustration, found this and several other horror story sites, and called my wife to ask her to stop the order.
Thanks to your cautionary tale, I asked her to emphasize that they are NOT TO DO ANY WORK. Their internal communication clearly sucks and now I’m nervous about unauthorized installations and getting slammed!
Good luck and thanks for getting this info out there - I hope that you’re able to get things sorted out.

Brian,
Thanks for your reply and I am glad my information helped. It is awful dealing with a nameless & faceless corporation that won’t treat you with any respect. Although I understand mistakes happen, I could only tolerate being treated with total disrespect for so long. It certainly seems to be pervasive in their organization.
Happy Holidays,
Matt

Why have you not filed a written complaint with your state PSC over this? While the FIOS is deregulated (i.e. you are SOL complaining about it..) the phone service & LNP is regulated.
You should do so ASAP, pointing out they deprived you of your service, entered/damaged your property without permission, and refused to remedy.
You might also find an attorney; THAT will get Verizontal’s attention…

My experience was great when I was a customer, but the disconnect process has been torture. We moved, and of course Verizon hasn’t laid fiber in the new neighborhood. Their build-out schedule was apparently designed and implemented by lobotomized monkeys. So I cancelled FiOS. They were supposed to send labels for me to return the equipment, but they never did. I called to complain, and they sent a tech out to pick up the stuff last April. I have a receipt to prove it. But they continue to claim I owe them $600 for unreturned equipment, and have twice tried to send collection agencies after me. I keep trying to explain that we returned the equipment and have a receipt, but they couldn’t possibly care less.
